19th Century in Södertälje June 16-18, 2023
Join a journey through time to 19th-century Södertälje where the sound of the psalmodikon is revived at the open-air museum Torekällberget. With opera singing, dance, and period costumes, history comes to life while visitors get the chance to try this unique instrument themselves.
Friday, June 16 and Sunday, June 18, Tommy Karlsson, Benn Roos, and Rolf Siwertz were at the open-air museum Torekällberget in Södertälje, where we played and talked about our psalmodikons. A total of about a hundred visitors came to us in our cottage, and many - both young and old - tried playing. The theme was the 1800s all weekend, with residents dressed in period costumes, as in old Södertälje. Long dances and games, jesters and catechism, cake baking and rope makers, blacksmiths and woodcarvers, and of course music. We were accompanied in song by opera singer Ulrika Nilsson, beautifully dressed in crinoline and bonnet. There was also a bit of dancing in the cottage, and if there were no other instruments, the psalmodikon probably provided the music for the waltz. We also managed to play with other musicians. Two wonderful days when you really felt transported back in time. It fit so well with our psalmodikons. And around us, the chickens clucked. And the rooster crowed and the sheep bleated.
